UPDATED PLANT BLOG

More plant news! And…more plants. *wink*. I may have thrown myself into getting even MORE plants than I originally anticipated on getting. LOL. But here is an update on my leafy babies!

Let’s get started with my already in the works plants. As you know, I purchased cuttings of several “strings of things” plants a while back. Well, Not ONLY are my strings of things FLOURISHING, but I also changed out their potting mix. From plain succulent soil to succulent soil/perlite mix, and they seem to love it! (to the left are my string of dolphins and string of bananas).

So not only have I been working very closely with my leafy babies for months now, but I also got (and am attempting) to propogate a rhaphidophora tetrasperma (mini monstera). Unfortunately, 4 of its leaves died off at the bottom, BUT it is using its energy to create a new leaf/stem at the top!

Now comes the fun part of the year, planting season!!!

Now that it’s officially February, it’s time to get prepared to start seedlings for the summer. Now, I’ve NEVER started outdoor plants from seedlings, so this is all new to me. I had to learn which zone I’m in, where the best place for sun is at for my raised plant beds, and how and when to start seedlings inside. These are the seeds I’ve decided I want to plant in my garden beds. We are starting small this year. 🙂

Above is what I purchased from Amazon for my seedlings. I also purchased heat mats, and will be ordering a grow light once the seeds start to germinate. (yes, my room is VERY bright during the day, hence why I got an eye mask for Christmas! LOL).

NEW

Above is my BRAND NEW (to me) raised garden bed. MUCH bigger and better than the previous metal one I had!

PLAN

I plan on planting my veggies in this planter, and possibly moving it to the side of the house where it gets more sun.

PLAN

My other garden bed will be used mainly for herbs I am hoping. 🙂

Propogating. One of the most nerve-racking tasks I’ve experienced with my plants!

As you can see, I chopped off my (what I found out is called a TRAILING JADE. Not just a jade like I originally thought). So I chopped it at a node, and thank the Lord above, she’s starting to grow new leaves already!

In the water bottles filled with perlite, is the top half of my trailing jade plant, and 2 cuttings from my mini monstera. And I’m praying that they grow roots soon so I can plant them with the mama plant and make them fuller!

Hmm….

Now I know what you’re thinking…

Kayla, WHAT are you going to do with all those seeds/plants?! Good question! I honestly have no clue yet! My GOAL is to make and can homemade tomato sauce using my herbs and tomatoes, and making homemade pickles with my pickling cucumbers and dill! >>>>

Another thing, is the lack of room in my room for all of these plants! I have ZERO idea where I’m going to fit all of my succulents, monstera and bonsai, and now my seedlings come middle of February. Oh well. I guess I’ll figure it out like I always to 😉
