Beginner Homestead

Latest obsession?

HOMESTEADING.

Where to start?

I want my own farm and huge garden SO bad. I want to live off my own property SO much.

Well, unfortunately, not only do I not have a farm/garden/animals, but I also don’t even own property (yet). Right now my family and I rent.

So the closest I have to homesteading as of now is that I know how to make homemade butter lol. It’s a pain in the ass but it’s rewarding when it’s all done.

I was gifted with a large above-ground garden this winter. I can’t WAIT to plant in spring!

Tomatos

Peppers

Herbs

Now, what do I plan on doing?

I want to make homemade tomato sauce. So I’m THINKING (not 100% sure yet) about growing:

  • Roma tomatoes
  • Plum tomatoes
  • Herbs
  • Paprika peppers
  • Potatoes?

Growing with Passion and Dedication

Mental Illness in Play

Medicines

I am on anti-depressants that make me heat-intolerant. This makes working outside in a garden more difficult than it needs to be.

Depression/Anxiety

Most days I don’t want to do anything, let alone do WORK. Which is what is expected if you want to grow your own food.

Exhaustion/Energy

I’m ALWAYS tired. I take medication that “should” wake me up but they don’t. (Yes, that baffles my psychiatrist as well). So another obstacle.

Determination/
“Motivation”

I have ZERO “motivation”/determination to do anything in my life, what makes me think that’s going to change for a garden?

“From Scratch” foods

I want to start making a LOT of stuff from scratch/growing from scratch.

And I know that’s gonna take a loooooootttttt of dedication. But it’s something I wanna do.

What else do I want to do this summer?

Leash train my dog! OMG he pulls like an OX.

I want to be able to walk him without him pulling me with all his might. Because he is STRONG.

It’s going to take time and a LOT of practice, but I’m hoping by the end of summer he will have it down. (And maybe I will lose some weight in the process)

Do YOU garden?

Let me know the best veggie/herb plants I should add to my raised garden beds! I’m a newbie at all this so I’d LOVE some advice!
